Husband Talents

I am always amazed at Kent's crochet projects! His favorite hobbies are basketball and crocheting. This makes my heart so happy.

He's trying to convince me to learn to crochet so we can do it together - but I want this to be HIS talent. Besides, it's the most confusing thing on the planet. Just look at this pattern. What the heck?!

7 week new baby

Milo is 7 weeks today! That means we made it past 6 weeks - WHEW! I can already see his little personality coming in. Sometimes when he's sleeping I miss him, so I watch videos of him on my phone. That little kid has my whole heart!

Things to mention at 7 weeks old:

  • - Once he's swaddled, he's out. But he has to be swaddled.
  • - When he wakes up mid-nap, he stretches out his neck all the way and looks like a turtle.
  • - When he knows he's going to be fed, he puts his hands together and moves his head back and forth and stops crying.
  • - He SMILES only in the wee hours of the morning.
  • - His tongue is the cutest little thing.
  • - His hair and eyebrows are non existent, but you can see his eyebrow muscles move.
  • - The leg rolls are becoming bigger & squishier.
  • - He holds his neck up like a pro for about a minute. Then he's a bobble head.
Every day just keeps getting better!

Mommy lessons

I want to make a list of what I have learned from being a mommy (remember - I'm only 5 weeks in).
  • It's okay for the house to be dirty.
  • It's okay for babies to cry.
  • PATIENCE.
  • Napping when baby naps is ideal.
  • The nipple shield is pretty cool and can help a ton!
  • The swaddle puts baby to sleep.
  • Put your expectations really really really low, then everything your husband does is really awesome. (Kent is great, and I expect too much from him sometimes).
  • It's okay to feel sad and cry. (p.s. I had some baby blues but I can tell they are gone now).
  • COMMUNICATE with your husband when you have stuff on your mind (which is all the time for me). We like to sit in bed and chat before we go to bed - it's really helped through these first few weeks.
  • Taking 5 minutes a day to close your eyes and breathe will help you clear your mind and be a good mommy.
That's all I can think of, and I need to do some other things before he wakes up! :)

Create

As humans we are born to create. I find myself browsing pinterest saying, "I want to make that" and then frivolously pinning almost everything. I usually never get around to it. I even have a secret board called "DO THIS FOR REAL" where I pin things I'm actually going to do (within a reasonable amount of time) and then delete them once they are done. But guess what? I've done two things. Maybe three. This is unacceptable! I want to create more. I NEED to create more. Since graduating and being a stay at home mom, I especially want to create more. I desperately need something else to spend my time on rather than cleaning, eating, sleeping and feeding a newborn.

So to get things started, I have created this:

I'm always worried about my designs. I could spend hours on them and never really "finish" them. That's what happened with my birth announcements for Milo. But you know what? You just have to stop and be done or nothing will get done!

I love what President Uchtdorf said, "The more you trust and rely upon the Spirit, the greater your capacity to create."

For Your Viewing Pleasure

Okay I die every time I see him in this outfit.

That face!

Kent Slid the City last weekend! He enjoyed it until the wind took over and blew the slide apart and so we left.

What we do all day

So far my routine with baby consists of staying in bed until noon, getting dressed and ready for the day (or not), thinking about going for a walk, waiting for dad to get home (he gets home at 4 p.m. every day), and I eat. All throughout that time I am constantly (that's what it seems like) feeding Milo. This little guy can EAT.

Once dad gets home, he showers, holds Milo and then we will either watch a show together or go out for a treat. Today's treat was shaved ice! It was tasty, but too much sugar.

Side note, yesterday I discovered I had mastitis! All of the sudden I had a fever and the chills but my body was really warm. I was also really dizzy and out of it. It's the worst, and I wouldn't recommend it! Ha. I'm recovering fine but lets hope that never happens again!

Hospital Essentials

I thought I would make a list of everything I actually used while at the hospital to have a baby.

  • Boppy - was nice for breastfeeding and for guests to hold Milo
  • Adult Diapers - WAY better and you feel more secure than those pads and panties they give you.
  • Camera/Charger
  • Phone/Charger - Don't forget to unload your photos on your phone before you go! I didn't so I didn't have space to take a million photos like I wanted to!
  • Chapstick - It's so dry at the hospital.
  • Insurance Cards/Drivers License/Wallet with cash for food for Husband
  • Toiletries - to make you feel like a human again
  • Going home outfit for you/baby
  • Baby Carseat - have it installed before you go, we didn't and Kent had to figure it out before we could leave.
  • Robe/Slippers - I used these when visitors came and to walk around the place.
  • Nursing bra
  • Extension Cord - so I could use my phone and charge it at the same time.
  • Baby Book - to have everyone sign the book and for you to record memories so they are fresh in your mind!
  • Snacks for the Husband
I didn't actually mind the hospital pillows, but Kent brought his own. And in reality you live in the same town where the hospital is, so I just sent Kent home to get something if I needed it. :)

Things I didn't really use:
  • Playing Cards
  • Movies
Good Luck Having those babies!

Kent in a Parade!

This year Kent was in the 4th of July Parade as a Ray's Chevron parade member. He works for this gas station detailing cars and they asked him to be in the parade. Definitely the highlight of the parade and of my day. He got into it and was so excited for it the night before. I love that guy.

Milo and I chilled on the sidelines under a tree until Dad started dancing in front of us :) Milo slept through the whole parade though.

Here are pictures and the video!

We watched Fireworks in Menan, ID that night and Milo sat there and watched them with us! I was worried the whole time they would be too loud and make him cry but he did really well.

Milo's Blessing Day

As most of my friends know, I'm very emotional right now. When Kent's family decided to come up for the 4th of July they wanted us to bless him that Sunday (the 5th). I was not prepared for that! But in the end I'm happy we did it. The Spirit was so strong in the meeting and I was so grateful to all who came and were a part of Milo's blessing.

Glad my sister could be there!

I'm so grateful to have little Milo.
